The naming of cats

Posted in meow meow on February 26, 2008 by Mitsu

Our kitten now has a name… After much deliberation (well, not that much) we decided to name her Priya. Hottie was fine with it, seeing as he doesn’t care much about cats, and what they’re named. To him, they’re just cats. I looked at some kitten names yesterday, and Priya was my second choice. We would have called her Nisha, but that sounded too much like the name of his brother’s dog Misha. I want to be original, you know. Anyways, I think Priya suits her. Since she’s all black, like a Bombay cat, she had to have an Indian name. Even our vet, who happens to be Hindu as well, likes it.

This brings me to my point about the naming of cats. They deserve to have nice names, not like the names of food (Cookie, Muffin, etc) or based on their appearance (Fluffy, Smokey etc). Not that I have anything against people who name their cats this way, but it sounds too much like something a small child would do. If anyone has read “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats”, they will know that cats deserve nice names (Although I found theirs a little bit much). Then again, I once had a cat named Cookie, but I didn’t name her, that’s what her previous owner called her.

So, let’s welcome the newest member of the Ottawa Meow Meow crew, Priya!

Monday’s mews

posted tuesday… Wordpress is blocked at work, so I write blog posts, send them to my personal e-mail, then copy and paste them onto here once I get the chance.

Yesterday night, I got a new kitten. She had belonged to a friend’s mom, who couldn’t manage having another pet (not to mention that another cat would have them over the city limit for numbers of pets). Anyways, I got a call at around 8:45 last night, to let me know that I could go pick up the kitteh whenever I want. Of course, I couldn’t wait, so I went to get her right away.

This little koneko mewed all the way home. It was funny to hear her do that. When we got her in the apartment, she just took her time and explored her surroundings. She’s such a brave little thing. Neko didn’t take very well to her though. She growled, hissed and hit the kitten in the face. All night, she would come to the door and hiss at the kitty, waking us up. She was being very mean to the newbie, considering that she was very friendly with Neko, and not hissing.

Well, we have them separated for now, and we’ll keep the kitten in the bedroom for this week. We’ll have to see how things turn out. As for names, she was called Mimzy, but that name was too boring for me. I think I’ll call her Nisha, which means night in Hindi. She is a black cat, after all.

Neko will not be too pleased, as I’m taking her to the vet for her yearly check-up today!

Nezumi Cutemouse

Passed away on February 13, 2008, at the tender age of 1.5 months. Nezumi was born on December 15th, 2007, in Ottawa, Canada. Her life was cut short by unknown causes. Nezumi was rescued from a fate of becoming snake food, by Mitsu, and was given a most comfortable life by mouse standards. Nezumi’s company was greatly enjoyed by Mitsu, Neko, Hottie and Boris. Her curiosity and playfulness were her greatest qualities. She passed away just 2 days shy of 2 months, and is survived by her father, Mouseballs.

rest assured that…

even though my posts may be getting more sparse, but I’m not letting Ottawa Meow Meow die! One of the  things that really bugs me, is that when I find a great blog, the owner just decides to let it fade away into space.

Anyways, as I’ve been saying, it’s hard for me to write with all of these time constraints, but things are looking great for me! Work related, I just found out that my contract is extended until June 30th, so that gives me more time to breathe, and not worry so much. I’m going to start saving up now, because trying to save in May/June will be impossible! There are just too many birthdays in that period, mine included.

Pets: they are all doing fine. Neko’s completely healed up now, and she looks great! The hair will be covering it all soon, and no one will know anything happened! Nezumi is not as skittish, now that I’ve trained her to realize that human=getting a treat. Wow, I never knew mice could learn so fast! Boris is his usual self, just go go going all the time!

The rumours about an election are dying down a bit, which is good. I mean, don’t get me wrong, they’re really exciting, but I don’t want things to change right now! I like having a hot minister!

New cat stories…and hot politicians

Posted in meow meow on February 5, 2008 by Mitsu

I’ve been bitten by a creative bug, so I’m going to start writing stories and posting them on here, since there is not that much excitement in my life as of late. I usually like to blog during the day, but I can’t do that anymore…

Well, I’m just waiting for Hottie to get home, since he’s working a late evening tonight. I’ve come up with a few ideas for cat stories, so what I’ll do is I’ll write them out on paper, then I’ll type them up here when I come home. I have the best inspirations/ideas right when I’m in bed, suffering from BBS (Busy Brain Syndrome). I’ll put a writing pad on my nightstand so that when it strikes, I’ll just turn on the light and write away! I still don’t understand why my mind works that way. Same for when I’m commuting home, but I can’t write while driving…that’s illegal!

I know a lot of them will be politically inspired…The one that I’ll start tonight will have “Standing Committee” somewhere in it. I’m watching CPAC a lot now that the House is back, I’m such a political junkie… Well, I’ll be honest, I watch it for the hot guys. I don’t know why, but I get these wierd “crushes” on politicians. Hottie finds it annoying, but I mean, I took PoliSci in university, and I have worked on numerous campaigns. That’s my excuse.

Anyways, Hottie has finally come home, so I should get off the computer and spend some time with him. I’ll leave you now with a pic of my “Hot Politician of the Moment”

Less posts…I’ve been blocked!

Posted in meow meow on February 2, 2008 by Mitsu

Yesterday, I came across the fact that wordpress is now one of the blocked websites at work. Thi really bites, cause now I won’t be able to post as many entries as I’d like. I don’t really have the time when I get home to blog, and weekends are almost impossible for me! Now, I’ll have to try and figure out some other way of posting. I know there are some blog editor porgrams out there, or maybe I’ll put more research into getting my own domain… Something has to be done. I have my theories about why wordpress got blocked, but I’m not saying anything.
