Here I am, another period of inactivity, so well named. I’ve been going for runs lately, as another method to try and keep my sanity while I’m out of work. I got an offer from an agency today, but the problem is that it’s until 11:30pm. I can’t work that late, I’ll get the sleepies, having to verify data at that hour. I don’t mind doing it during the day, but data entry can be pretty taxing on the eyes and mind, which is why I can’t take that job. Not only that, but the pay is lower than my minimum requested, and I’d also have to be commuting late at night. I don’t like to drive at night, and the buses get pretty scary at that hour. So I’ll have to pass on it, I just hope this agency doesn’t hold it against me.

WOW! I just checked my blog stats, and it says that I’ve had 19 views on Saturday! 19! The best yet! I think it was that kitteh tossed from car story that did it! I’ll post more Ottawa news on here, if that’s what you want! OMM will become a news commentary site, but I’ll still have my little posts about my life, Neko’s life, etc.

I was right… on Friday, I mentioned that Neko would go into heat, and the next day, she did! The senses win again. I’m still a bit tired, cause she was mao-ing last night, about every hour. It bugged me a bit, but I really hope that it disturbed my neighbours, who bug me constantly with their kid’s screaming.

Yeah, I’m just at work now, blogging away. I’ve brought my sketchbook with me, so I’m going to draw some stuff, maybe design some tags… it’s so much easier to draw on paper than on Sketchfu… oh well.

I’ve got a couple leads for next week, maybe something good will come from them. Ideally, I’d like to work full-time for the next 3 months, until I go back to school. Then I can find something part-time, and I’ll have a little buffer saved up for a while. I’m still waiting for my transcripts though, before I pay for the application. They should come next week.

Cats… Neko is being herself, meowing, and being a mad spaz. She’s going to have a heat cycle soon, I can sense it, and I’ve always been right in the past. It’s funny how I can detect things like that. My hottie says that it’s too creepy and weird… I think it’s just part of my cat instincts that are still with me. I don’t get it though, cats are naturally attracted to me, so we’ve assumed that I must have been a cat in a past life. I don’t really believe in that stuff, but it would sure explain a lot, meow, wouldn’t it?

That’s enough for meow… Time to do something else.

I’ve applied to the computer programmer course for winter 2008. Now, to hope that I get accepted. I don’t see why I wouldn’t, being a mature student and all. I’m kind of looking forward to this. Believe it or not, I like being in school. It’s a lot less stressful thatn being out in the working (or in my case, waiting a month, then working for only 2 weeks) world. I’ve also been really good at school, you could even say I’m a nerd or a geek. All the better, it means I will succeed at this once I get in. I’ll keep you posted on how that turns out.

Two face charges after kitten tossed from car

‘She just dropped it and never looked back’

Alana Toulin, The Ottawa Citizen

Published: Tuesday, September 11, 2007

A 31-year-old Ottawa woman and her 68-year-old father have been charged with animal cruelty after a five-week-old kitten was allegedly tossed from a moving car in a Vanier neighbourhood.

Marilyn Saunders said she was sitting outside her home doing a crossword puzzle on Aug. 27 when she noticed a car slow down on Presland Road.

“There was a little kitten being hung out the window on the passenger side with this woman hanging onto its neck,” she said. “She just dropped it and never looked back. Then the driver sped up and away they went.”

Ms. Saunders said the brown and white kitten was tossed about three metres away from the sidewalk on her busy street and “would have been right in a tire track” had she not reached the animal in time.

The terrified kitten was shaking and “meowing like crazy,” she said. “I tried to calm it down by cuddling it. He was just shaking.”

She was able to get the licence plate number of the car as well as a description of the occupants.

Using that information, humane society investigators were able to track down the owners of the vehicle.

Rachel Trudel and her father, Roger Trudel, who is from Papineau, were charged with animal cruelty on Aug. 30.

Ottawa Humane Society executive director Bruce Roney was outraged by the incident.

“Who tosses a kitten from a car? I don’t know what’s going on,” he said, citing other recent cases of animal cruelty, such as a boxer being found dead in a Gloucester Street stairwell and a cat beaten to death with a tire iron in North Gower.

Mr. Roney called the cat tossing incident “horrible.”

“Fortunately, it was abrasions that the kitten suffered from. He wasn’t seriously injured. He could have just as easily been killed or severely injured,” he said, calling the incident “pointless.”

“If owners can’t find a home for their pet, they can bring it here,” Mr. Roney said.

“We care for over 11,000 animals every year. It’s what we do, and we do it so that this doesn’t happen.”

Ms. Saunders agreed, calling incident “obscene.”

“I’m really concerned,” she said. “It really made me angry that someone would do that, especially in broad daylight.”

The fluffy kitten is now recuperating at a humane society foster home.

His “foster mother,” Emily Keen, said yesterday the kitten is doing well, except for a bit of a cold.

“He’s very playful,” said the University of Ottawa student, who has been fostering cats from the humane society since April. “I think it’s horrible what happened to him. I started crying when I found out.”

Mr. Roney expects the “very cute” little kitten will be up for adoption in a matter of weeks.

Mr. Trudel and Ms. Trudel each face three counts of animal cruelty for failing to provide suitable and adequate care to an animal and for causing unnecessary pain, suffering, and injury to the same animal. Ms. Trudel faces an additional charge for willingly causing injury to an animal.

They are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 11.

I’ve made up my mind

I’ve decided to go back to school. I’ll take a computer programmer course in college, then I can get a good job in an IT department somewhere. I’ve discussed it, and this seems to be the best course of action for me. It will complement my university degree, and help to get me out of this admin trap. Not that there’s anything wrong with admin, but I just don’t want to be stuck in an office all my life, being told what to do, and taking crap from people. I want to do something productive, and there will always be computers to be programmed and fixed. I’m already good at that sort of thing, so why not get a certification in it? The only thing left now, is to see if I can get in for the winter sessions, and to get a loan from my bank. It will be worth it.

Cat house… I love this song!

Cat House РTakako Minekawa

hoo, my house they call it cat house.
My house is in the house.
The master is now sleeping.
>From now on my secret time,
what will I do today?
Watch Autumn Tatum O’Neal’s movie is now on TV!
Sweet smokey pink and green, white.
My house is piglet color.
My house is in the house.
Hoo, my house they call it cat house.
>From now on secret time.
Quiet meditation time,
let’s listen to the CD “Just for Cat” I got today.
Now, I’m looking at the mirror, studying
how to stare at my master with my round round almond eyes
(with upward glance!).
I usually don’t use my nails.
Just hide them ’cause I’m gentle.
No!No!I’m painting them red.
They go with my red collar.
Still I don’t like to take a bath,
not even a bubble bath.
I don’t eat cat food except my favorite one.
Now I’m looking into scope, studying
how to feel the light and color.
I’m interested in it now.
I’m a little philosophical.
I’ve read “Mille Plateaux” already.
Now I’m trying to read “The Book Of Color” next, tonight (sure!).
Sweet smokey pink and green, white.
My house is piglet color.
Why don’t you come to my house?
It’s simple and poetic.
It’s my dream to make
like Aresky and Fontaine’s.
Oh!Oh!Master is calling me.
He is awake now, maybe.
Try to go play with him.
I’m a cat and sensitive girl.
Better than a compu-kitty.
La la la la la la la,
meow, meow, meow, meow!
